Liturgy & Music

If you enjoy music, art, gardening, theater, celebrations or being a companion to others as they journey through major milestones in their lives, you may be interested in getting involved in a musical or liturgical ministry...
LITURGICAL MINISTRIES

Here is the current ministry schedule.

Lector -- Proclaims the Scripture readings at Sunday and Holy Day Masses. (Training is provided.)

Eucharistic Minister -- Distributes the bread and wine at Sunday, Holy Day, and/or weekday Masses. (Training is provided.)

Server/Acolyte -- (Adult or youth) Assists the priest during liturgies. (Training is provided.)

Usher/Greeter -- Serves at Sunday and Holy Day Masses. Duties include greeting people as they arrive, assisting with collection, distributing bulletins, and attending to people's needs. (Training is provided.)

ART & ENVIRONMENT

Enhances the church environment for all liturgical seasons. Extra help is always needed for holidays. The outdoor gardens are the next largest environment for this committee. Help is needed to plan, plant and maintain the gardens from spring until the first frost.

Garden Angels -- Weeds and waters the parish gardens on a weekly basis.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT

Adult Choir -- Leads and enhances the assembly's singing at Sunday Mass and special liturgical celebrations. Open to all singers, high school age and beyond. (Music background is not needed). Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings, 7:30 p.m. in church, September through May.

Life Teen Music Group --Leads the congregation's singing at Life Teen Mass, Sunday evenings. Auditions open to singers and instrumentalists. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings.

Cantor -- Leads the assembly's singing and proclaims the psalms at liturgies. (Audition required).

Hand Bell Choir - Plays on a regular basis for liturgies. Open to all, high school age and beyond. (Requires basic music reading skills.) Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings, 5:45 p.m. in church, September -May.

Funeral Choir -- Leads & enhances the assembly's singing at funerals. (No requirements for membership.) No rehearsals; on-call basis.

Instrumentalist -- Enhances liturgical celebrations. Proficiency on orchestral instruments required.

FUNERAL GUILD

Provides a pastoral response to families and friends who have lost a loved one.

Bereavement Ministry -- Provides hospitality during wakes and funeral Masses, or serves as Lector, Eucharistic Minister, or assists with placing the pall or bringing up gifts at offertory. Maintains supportive contact with the family during the mourning period.

WEDDING GUILD

Assists the wedding coordinator, and provides a welcoming environment for wedding couples and their family and friends.

Wedding Host -- Welcomes guests and provides assistant during rehearsal, and before, during, and after the wedding ceremony.

Host Couples -- Coordinates parish blessings of engaged couples. Provides hospitality for Enrichment days/evenings; provides assistance to presenters.

FOCCUS Couples -- Meets with engaged couples to help them learn more about themselves and their unique relationship. (By invitation only. Training provided by the Archdiocese.)

Ministry to the Married Couples - Presents Enrichment topics for married couples. (Open to couples married one year or more. Training provided by the Archdiocese.)

Youth Choir -- Youth Choir is open to all boys and girls in the parish, grades 3-5. This choir incorporates use of percussion instruments and handbells, and leads the singing at school and weekend liturgies. Youth Choir rehearses on Tuesdays from 3-4pm in the church, September through May. Call Peg Kasun for details (414)545-4316, ext.17, or e-mail at kasunp@archmil.org

SCHOLA CANTORUM Schola is a more advanced ensemble for older students in grades 6-8. Its members sing more elaborate harmonies, and are also trained in as cantors if they desire that opportunity. YOUTH MUSICIANS Youth of the parish are sometimes incorporated into liturgical music at school and weekend masses. If your child plays an instrument and would like to share that gift in parish worship, please call Peg Kasun at (414)545-4316, ext. 17, or e-mail at kasunp@archmil.org
