Spanish -- Senora Marsha Steffens-Zepnick

Spanish language instruction begins in Kindergarten and continues through Grade 8. The long-range goal of our foreign language program is to give students a solid foundation so that they feel comfortable in secondary school Spanish classes.

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, the Sign of the Cross and the Pledge of Allegiance are recited in Spanish during the morning announcements. Classes also learn the Our Father, the Prayer Before Meals, and the Prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe in Spanish. There is a yearly celebration of an all school liturgy on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe which includes responses and prayers in Spanish.

Testimonials From Former St. Greg's Students

Spanish at St. Greg's helped prepare me for high school level Spanish by preparing me for a higher level instead of intro to Spanish. Having this advantage game me connections to people that has greatly enriched my 2 years at Pius.

St. Greg's gave my son (Daniel), starting in 6th grade, the basic understanding of how to form Spanish verbs and vocabulary terms we use in every day life. He was helping his brother (Bryan) who took Spanish "1" as a freshman. Bryan was not given that opportunity when he went to St. Greg's. So because of this great program in grade school, he had 3 years of Spanish and now he is a freshman taking Spanish "2"! It has come very easy to him. Thank you St. Greg's and Señora Zepnick!

The learning techniques Señora Zepnick used made Spanish interesting and fun. It was interesting learning the Spanish culture and language together. I feel I was prepared for the next level of Spanish. I will go on to take Spanish every year throughout high school and college. I believe I enjoy it so much because I was introduced to it in such a fun way.

Kristina was in 7th grade when the Spanish program was introduced to St. Greg's. Because of this program and the way that it's taught, she was able to start high school in Spanish 2 with a good understanding of this language.

I had Spanish with Señora Zepnick in 6th, 7th and 8th grade at St. Greg's. I was able to enroll in Spanish 2 as a freshman at Pius XI High School. I plan to continue taking Spanish until I'm a senior in Spanish 5.
