In second grade, students are encouraged to become more independent learners. Throughout the year, with parental help, students will complete short and long-range projects relating to science, social studies and reading topics. A special focus of the second grade reading curriculum is their study of the story of the Nutcracker, culminating in a field trip to the Nutcracker Ballet. They also have several other field trips which coordinate with the curriculum. They visit the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Jelly Belly Center, the Milwaukee Public Museum and Old World Wisconsin.
