"As part of preparation for Confirmation, the involvement in community service is critical. The experience of Christian community leads naturally to service (TJD n 28). To live as Christ lived is to live a life that responds to the needs of others- at home, in school, in the community, etc. While service is an essential component of preparation for Confirmation, it should be seen more as constitutive of the gospel than as a project be be completed or hours to be counted". Sacramental Guidelines-Archdiocese of Milwaukee
9th & 10th Graders
High school students in Grades 9 & 10 will be asked to volunteer for three (3) parish-wide events.
Confirmation Candidates (Grades 11 & 12)
Candidates are asked to complete five (5) acts of service during the preparation year: three (3) parish events and two (2) community events.
Examples of Acceptable Service
Parish events are anything that happen in the parish community. Service can include volunteering for the festival or food pantry, singing in the choir, assisting with retreats for First Eucharist and Reconciliation, etc.
Community events are events in your school and neighborhood. You can help in your school, your neighborhood and/or with organizations that support a cause (ie, tutor younger students, coordinate a food drive at school, serve a meal at Ronald McDonald House, etc).
The service should benefit others, not yourself; so working a car wash to help support the baseball team you play on would not be service, but working a bake sale where the proceeds are helping a teammate's family whose parent is going through cancer treatment would be service.
